Jon is a celebrated and well-renowned children’s author and had previously set up a website for his ‘Mortlock’ series but had no dedicated website for himself apart from a free blog. He needed a site that would inform visitors about him as an author and include all his books. He wanted the site to be interactive and encourage visitors to engage. Details of upcoming events needed to be included as well as information about his reading schemes.
The main challenge was to bring all elements of Jon’s online presences together in one place in a concise and logical manner. Jon has pages and microsites all over the web and we needed to consolidate everything in one place. The interactive elements were, obviously, an important consideration and making the site fun and exciting for younger visitors.
We designed a site that used the artwork from Jon’s books. This made the site instantly familiar to fans and readers of his book. We decided to take the concept of ‘web pages’ literally and created a dynamic horizontal scrolling site to emulate the pages of a book. The interactive element was satisfied with quizzes and riddles and we included links to other websites of interest which featured Jon.
Jon’s site receives thousands of visitors a month with a high engagement rate. Links to websites selling Jon’s books (e.g. Amazon and Bloomsbury) have aided sales and he now has a platform to promote his events, achievements and future activities. Jon was also keen to provide a platform for promotion for people he works with, such as his illustrators as well as collaborations with schools. Jon popped into the office a short while ago for a refresher website tutorial and we will be updating his site with his new publications that are in the pipeline in the near future.
