The client wanted to create an app to enable users to find beauty and cosmetic treatments while on the go. The idea was to provide a resource for people interested in these sorts of services to have instant access to a wide range of services wherever they are. Businesses would choose from a range of pricing tiers to avail themselves of various features and have the ability to edit, amend and manage their own profiles.
The sheer number of businesses that could be listed and the geographical area were immediately obvious as challenges. Nationwide targeting can be tricky without a clear strategy. From another point-of-view, users would need a reason to install the app and, more importantly, keep it on their phones so benefits of the interface and great UX would be vital.
We designed a truly gorgeous app and accompanying website for the Cosmetic Directory. Neatly split, the website provided an interface for the individual businesses to manage their own listings while the app was purely aimed at users. This helped us to correctly target the app and website to two specific sets of users and design accordingly. A database of nationwide service providers was created and uploaded as ‘free listings’ which showed limited information on the profile page. The app was deployed on Google’s Play Store and Apple’s App Store.
The free listings are able to be claimed by participating businesses after choosing one of the pricing tiers. The website enables easy management of the business’ profiles and they are able to see which features are unlocked depending on the pricing tier. The app search filters work either using the phone’s location or by entering a physical address with businesses compartmentalised into logical sectors. This app and website provide a sound foundation for success with the correct and well-strategised marketing campaign.
