Impact Casting had three sites built over ten years ago on outdated platforms which were reliant on Flash technology. They needed a new contemporary design to properly represent where the company is now positioned in the market and to make it easier to advertise and showcase their successes. The extras’ profile pages needed to better represent the extras on their books and enable casting directors to drag-and-drop suitable candidates into a shortlist to print as a PDF. In addition, the back end interface needed to be brought up-to-date and enable Impact Casting to more efficiently manage the listings on the website.
The site’s design needed to be sufficiently impressive to compete with rival businesses in the North West. Impact Casting have close competitors in Liverpool, Leeds and Manchester and the new site needed to successfully convince casting directors of their professionality, capabilities and viability as a provider.
Our main key challenge was making sure we successfully migrated existing extras from the old website to the new one. With the quantity on the site, it wasn’t practical to reload them all manually so a database solution was required. Once migrated, the data needed to be reformatted in order to create a more user-friendly interface for backend management.
Impact have provided extras to some big name productions so it seemed fitting to opt for a large screen cinematic look and feel. We used full screen imagery and large fonts to create a striking widescreen effect and a range of high-quality images to achieve the desired effect. Extras’ profile pages made effective use of professional photography and a neat and consistent appearance making effective use of whitespace for clarity. Website visitors are able to drag-and-drop potential candidates for roles into a shortlist and then download them in one collective PDF for easier reference.
The old database was migrated and successfully reconfigured to auto-populate the new site and an improved back end interface made for more efficient management of extras’ listings.
Impact were delighted with the new design and the new site exceeds the visual impact of the company’s competitors. The company now has an improved management interface with a wider range of tools in the admin dashboard. Casting directors are able to add and compare extras in one central results page and download as a PDF to share with colleagues, thus saving them time and money.
Timescales were reduced by migrating the database of existing extras from the old site and re-representing them on the new one, including their images.
